We are a small school of 48 (K-5) students. At least half of our students are ESL and on Free and Reduced Lunch. Many travel great distances to be at our school. We have three teachers who team-teach and work hard at meeting the individual needs of each student.
Because we have such a small number of students, we teach multiple grades.
It is essential that we provide individualized instruction that is best provided through technology. We are also challenged to engage students in their learning. Technology provides this motivation and better prepares students for the future. One to one technology is critical.
My Project
Students will use iPads and computer software daily to access information, do research through Pioneer Library, practice skills, read, and write. Projects to demonstrate their learning will vary from teacher-led to student-directed. Classes will read age appropriate content material and write about what they have learned. In our school, teachers become guides on the side.
By having one to one digital access, students will have access to online software all day long; such as, Spelling City, IXL, Waterford, MyOn, and ConnectEd. Each student will have an individual learning plan.
Students will also be able to communicate and collaborate with each other and with peers and mentors around the world. Creativity will increase as students learn how to use technology to create and present products of their learning. Most important, students will become more critical thinkers.
Almost everything I teach involves technology.
One to one digital technology will better prepare my students instead of waiting for their turn on the computers.
Students today are innately programmed to be users of technology. Many times students are showing me shortcuts as they have access to software.
As we integrate reading and writing into science and social studies projects, students will be more engaged in their learning. Technology is the key to our students’ future.
