My students need an iPad mini to use during small group reading time. The phonic applications are incredible and help my EL to hear the letter sounds and articulate better.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are my whole world. They amaze me each and every day. No matter our day, they are happy! We are a small, tight-knit school with a strong sense of community. Our school is family in every sense of the word. Many of our students' parents have moved here from deprived countries in hopes of a better life for their children. They value education and support their teachers to the best of their abilities. Many of my students are learning to speak English, as well as read and write English. They are my translators when I am meeting with their parents to inform them of school events. This is why they inspire me to work harder. They never quit, never give up, and always persevere.
My students make me want to be a better person, to appreciate the small things in life.
They take a bus ride to school each day, arrive to school with a smile and a hug. Even though they had to arise early, walk to a bus stop, and skip breakfast most days ... they are happy to see me. They deserve a good start to an even better education.
My Project
I have English Learners in the classroom. They work hard each day to learn how to articulate letter sounds and blend sounds into words. Each day we practice oral lessons and blending sounds using ABC Charts, magnetic letters, books and playdoh letters. My students want to learn, work hard and are inspiring.
Though my students are hard-working; technology and it's many advantages keeps my young learners focused and curious.
By using iPads during my small group learning time, I am able to teach other small groups while my English Learners are engaged with technology. The many literacy applications available to my students are age appropriate and extremely interactive and engaging. My students are able to wear headphones while using the I-pad. They can play games that enable them to hear and articulate letter sounds and blends; helping these eager learners succeed.
21st Century learners must learn how to utilize technology properly and to their advantage. The advantages that these tools provide is not a replacement for academics, but rather an enrichment to literacy.
