When I was a young girl I was a regular library patron and especially loved the monthly book orders. I loved having a small collection of my own favorite books. I teach kdg-5th grade students who speak English as a second language. I try to get books in the hands of my students weekly to develop a love of books and to expand their vocabulary. Weekly, we discuss favorite books.
Most of my students live in poverty and do not have a special book collection at home.
Our schools are currently closed for the school year. I have been giving my personal collection of children's books away to my students by dropping off book bags weekly. I love to see the smiles on their faces as I walk back to my car and they see the bags on their doors.
My Project
I will purchase children's books to be given to my students so that they have a small family library. I will order and organize books for families so that each student can get books to start their own collections. I hope to continue to pass on the love of books and reading to these students who are so special to me. I can't wait to see their faces when they receive the books that will become their very own! Thank you so much for considering funding this project that is near and dear to me.
