Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Some travel from as far as twenty miles to get to our school. Some are dropped off an hour before school starts, others use public transportation or ride a bike to school. They come from several different cities to be a student here. In spite of these differences, they share one thing. They are high achieving and goal oriented students with a 3.0 or higher GPA. We are an engineering and biomedical science themed high school. My specific students have chosen to take my class as an elective. It's a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) STEM class called Aerospace Engineering.
My Project
Students will learn how fly a drone manually and autonomously. The Parrot Mambo is a drone that is perfect for students who want to learn how to fly a drone safely. The Mambo is also capable of being programmed using different coding platforms like Tynker and Swift Playgrounds. The extra batteries will be used to extend flying times for students so that they will have more opportunities to fly.
STEM skills will be emphasized by coding the drone to complete activities using the First Person View (FPV) camera, grabber, and cannon.
Students will gain 21st century skills like problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication.
