My students need a new Lego Mindstrorm EV3 kit to use in their First Lego League (FLL) competition. This amazing kit is essential to building the team robot needed for FLL competitions.
Our students are hardworking, intelligent and truly good people. They enjoy coming to school, seeing their friends and working (well, as much as any middle school student likes to work!). They are generally engaged in the curriculum and are curious about the different things they learn.
While they are a bright and inquisitive bunch, their achievement scores sometimes do not match their abilities.
Some of this can be attributed to their family situation and background. Many families struggle to support their students due to their own educational limitations or availability to support their students because of work or family commitments. In other cases, our students have not become accustomed to the rigor or behavioral expectations for middle school students and must continue to learn those things along with learning the curriculum. As such, our theme this year is "Our Family." We have committed as a staff to engage our students and families to create an amazing source of support for our learners.
My Project
The Lego Mindstorm EV3 kit is necessary for teams that compete in First Lego League competitions. The kits are the materials student teams use to build their robots, which are used to complete a variety of missions in a two and a half minute period at competition.
The competition is fierce!
Our students love this competition and are so pumped to improve their performance this year. But, they need new Legos. Over time, the kits previously purchased have lost parts (did you know Legos just walk away? hahaha) and others have broken. We would like to replace the kits to improve our students chances of success.
First Lego League is a passion project on our campus because it encourages student participation beyond the opportunities traditionally offered on a middle school campus. Our goal is to increase student participation as we are able to provide the materials teams need to be successful. At this time, our school has three First Lego League teams, but we are only requesting assistance in purchasing one kit. We believe this is a great place to start and hope you consider contributing.
