My students are wonderful and energetic kids, each with unique needs and a special situation. Though they each have a unique story, they share something in common - they struggle more than most with school because of a disability. Whether it is autism, a specific learning disability, emotional disturbance, intellectual disability or a number of other disabilities, they all are working hard to overcome the challenges life as given them and access learning.
As their teacher, I want to do all that I can to specially design supports for each of them and their unique needs.
My Project
One of the biggest challenges my students face is the desire to keep going. They are frequently experiencing failure in the classroom as they struggle with reading, writing, and math. The power of this literature can turn that around.
This collection will not only promote literacy but also help them develop resilience, determination, and perseverance.
I have borrowed many of these books from other teachers in the past and seen enormous success as they learn from these stories. The time has come to fill my own classroom with these materials so they can be more effectively and efficiently used with ALL of my students.
