Help me give my students Growth Mindset themed books that will encourage them to be hard workers, never give up and to challenge themselves to go further and higher each day.
My students are culturally, linguistically, economically diverse and challenged. Most of my students are from other parts of the world to include Afghanistan, Vietnam, Russia, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Morocco. There are only two American students in my class this year. Half of my class is on free and reduced lunch. One third of them are also members of the BackPack Pal program that gives them food on Friday for the weekend. We are currently a Title I school.
My students aim to be hard workers.
They love to learn and they love to have fun doing it. My students are also like sponges. They absorb almost everything that they learn. Although at times they struggle with new material, they are learning to persevere and not give up.
My Project
Do you know the difference between a Fixed and a Growth Mindset? A Fixed Mindset person uses words like, I can't, this is too hard or this is too easy. A Growth Mindset person uses words like I can't do it YET! I'm going to try it a different way, I know I can do this, I have to keep on trying. We are requesting Growth Mindset themed books that will encourage my students to be hard workers, never give up and to challenge themselves to go further and higher each day.
A Growth Mindset fosters motivation, resilience, and persistence.
A Fixed Mindset kills it. I want all of my students to always have a Growth Mindset. I want them to be hard workers and not believe that intelligence lies with the genetically blessed.
In our classroom, we all are a constant reminder for each other to, change our words, and then you will change your mindset. All of the books in this project will constantly remind the students to not give up, to look for an alternative way, to try and try again. In the words of Kevin Durant, "Hard work beats talent, where talent fails to show up."
