My Students
The halls are filled with excitement as students make their way to the next class. Students in the neighborhood come from working class families; many are first generation North Americans. From Algeria to the Philippines to Yemen, our students are brave participants in the local school community. They speak multiple languages and hold multiple experiences, yet they all work together to build a brighter future.
Coming from many different walks of life, levels of academic proficiency, and language backgrounds, students find the library to be a place of comfort, a gentle push to read and explore more topics.
Our students love to read and deserve quality books to encourage their quest toward literacy!
My Project
Our students will be beaming with creativity because a well-stocked makerspace allows students to explore their true colors of creativity daily. Every lunch period, students will come to the library to engage in a variety of hands-on activities, such as building structures, engineering machines, and solving problems using K'Nex, LittleBit Kits, and more!
Our library makes space for the development of creators, makers, engineers, artists, and builders.
While working both independently and with peers, students practice the skills of problem solving, thinking outside of the box, communicating effectively to pave their way through the mazes of the unknown. Just imagine a group of five sixth grade boys trying to build a robot together, critically-thinking and collaborating every step of the way. Students learn quickly in our library that collaboration is a necessary part of invention and critical thinking.
