Mrs. Vogelsang from Memphis TN is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a book shelf where they can easily find the books that relate to the specific concepts that we are learning.

Time is of the essence in today's classroom. I team teach with another 2nd grade teacher and every minute is needed for teaching and learning. I pull books from our classroom library that relate to the concepts we're learning for the week but don't have anywhere to put them for easy student access!
My students are eager, energetic learners.
Most of them are 7 or 8 years old and come from single parent homes. They attend a Title I school in Tennessee where approximately 93% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our school is a school within a school. We serve optional students who are performing at or above grade level and students who are struggling learners. I teach our struggling learners who often don't have access to learning materials at home. My students love to take ownership of their learning and want to do the work on their own. One of the ways they can do that is in the reading center. Since I teach math, science and social studies I pull non-fiction books that relate to the concepts that we are studying for the week so they can read more about a concept and apply skills in reading. They really enjoy this time on their own.
The resource I am requesting is a book shelf that would accommodate the number of books I usually pull in a week. It would makes things much more efficient for both me and my students. Since I team teach I have a block of time in the morning and in the afternoon to teach two different teams of students math, science and social studies. During this time I try to incorporate learning stations so that my students have time for independent learning. I don't have shelf space to organize the books I pull to make it easy for students to find the book they want and have time to read it. The bookshelf will help display the books so the students can easily select the book they want and spend their time reading it!
Most of my students are below grade level learners.
I only have a small block of time during the day to reach and teach my students. I want that time to be spent learning. The bookshelf will help make it easy for my students to see the books and then select the book they want to read. Their time will be spent reading the book, not finding it.
