Our students are inner-city kids. Many of our kids are at or below poverty level. Our school has 100% free lunches. Students are working hard to overcome their neighborhood and home situations. They need support from our staff in many areas, especially appropriate social development. They are great kids who just need more support. We are working hard to ensure that they grow up with appropriate coping skills and a good foundation that will lead to successes later in life.
My Project
My students sometimes lack important skills necessary for self-regulation and an ability to self sooth. These materials will help me teach my students the skills that I have personally gained through my yoga practice. We will use the yoga spinner to make it more fun, and give the children more control of their practice. We can use the cards to allow the students to lead their own practice, or even lead groups.
These books on peace, and yoga will help me drive home these concepts to my children.
The yoga mats will allow us to practice on our hard school floors safely.
