My Students

My students are catalysts for positive change within their communities, scholars in the making. My students represent the special education population and are enrolled in our school's self-contained program. They are tenacious, motivated, and resilient.

These students have faced their fair share of adversity, but I want those barriers to be removed when they enter my class.

My Project

My students struggle to work with the installed classroom lights, as they are not calming nor conducive to their learning. We are looking for an alternate to classroom lights. This installment is apart of a 5 part series, Mindfulness through the 5 senses: touch, sight, taste, smell and sound. We are currently focused on sight, which has the most impact in the classroom out of the five senses. I have found that students are more relaxed and feel safer when they are able to move around the room and choose their preferred seating arrangement. But, light is not evenly distributed throughout the classroom. With this being said, purchasing floor lamps and LED lights would be a great start to this mindfulness journey.
