I have an amazing group of students who overall just love to learn! My goal this year is to keep that passion going. I am at a Title I school that takes in students from a homeless shelter located in the downtown area of our city.
I concentrate on teaching about social justice issues and it has created a passion in my students for helping others.
I truly feel that they take the important concepts and ideas I teach them, absorb them and will become some of the leaders of our future.
My Project
Earlier this year, my 4th grade class started a project about mindfulness and photography. It emphasized being grateful for things around you. We are currently finishing up the project and will need to develop the film from the cameras they used in order to finish. After completing some mindfulness circles and lessons around perspective taking and gratefulness, students took pictures of things inside of school, during a community walk and then in their own personal life of things they are grateful for, using their own disposable camera.
The students will get to take the pictures home with them at the end of year and use them to bring mindfulness to their life outside of school, along with having a nice memory of our school year together.
Students already have photo books to store the photos in!
