My Students

Our middle school students are the best! They work hard, play hard, and think hard. We have a range of abilities, personalities, and opportunities. As a school community we care about each-other and inspire each-other to do better.

Middle school can be a tough time physically, mentally, and emotionally.

My students are amazing and advocate for themselves daily. Throughout the school day, students are supported to think about how their experiences help them to grow and get closer to who and what they want to be. If we can provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed, they will!

My Project

This year has been a year like no other. The stressors that have affected our students have been challenging. The need for mindfulness and social, emotional learning is high. People communicate stress in different ways, some lash out, some shut down, and some freeze.

My students need a soft, warm place within the classroom where they can decompress, breathe, and understand/communicate what is going on.

The tools requested in this project help students with multiple intelligences take time to relax and make the best use of their time. The rug offers an alternative space to sit, read, or do work. The kinetic sand can be used as a manipulative to zen and relax. The other sand is a good visual for relaxing. As previously mentioned, people react to stress in different ways. Some do not want to verbally communicate, but the plush octopus would allow them to communicate without their voice. The year is not over and there is still learning to do. Academic & Social/Emotional!
