This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a sweet group of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in the heart of Los Angeles. We are a Title I school with most of my students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. They are an amazing group of learners with special needs ranging from having mild Autism to processing disorders to health impairments due to brain issues.

They range in ability from three years below level to almost reaching grade level.

They are well loved but need so much more love and support and encouragement! They can succeed, they just need extra time and extra resources above and beyond what I or my school is able to provide.

My Project

My diverse group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th Special Education students all have one thing in common- a need to know how to better use their brain. I have taught mindfulness and growth mindset for years and always see a positive impact on how students see themselves and the world. It is especially important for my Special Education students to see that they can get better and grow.

They also often struggle more than the average student to understand their emotions and get them back into control.

I am always searching for great content and resources to help me help them. These 9 books on mindfulness would be a great start toward that end. They will learn to breathe, to pause, and to meditate among other things.
