My students need social and emotional learning tools: mindfulness books, emotions cards, and yoga instructional material to teach emotional well being, self-regulation, and empathy in the classroom setting.
The students come from different social economic backgrounds with the common desire to learn. They come with different social and emotional skills too. I want to provide all students with social and emotional learning. As educators, we feel that it is our responsibility to not only teach our students to be great learners, but to be great citizens and leaders as well.
Teaching Social and Emotional Skills is one of the most important things a teacher can do because it has such a strong correlation to student academic achievement and emotional well-being.
In the same way that we provide direct instruction in mathematics and language arts, I believe we should provide the same in social and emotional learning
My Project
Children, especially young developing children need to be taught social emotional skills, like what can be achieved through a Mindfulness curriculum. I am asking for Yoga for Children, Mindfulness for Kids, and Calm Cards.
Stress is the enemy of learning and impacts my students' ability to focus, remember, pay attention, self-regulate their emotions, and manage their behavior
For example, children will interact with Meddy Teddy to learn peaceful yoga and gain a better understanding of mindfulness. The books I am asking for: Mindfulness for Kids, A Boy and his Turtle, and What to do when your anger flares up, all help with self-regulation.
Research shows that a dynamic mindfulness curriculum can be an effective means of helping children develop self-regulation and valuable social emotional skills. These material will support our Mindfulness curriculum.
