My students need materials to aid them in learning mindfulness. The book, texts, singing bowl, and the percussion instrument I am requesting will allow me to build a curriculum that can meet their needs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students know that our class is a safe space- one of peace, kindness, growing, and learning, Students come from all academic abilities, socio-economic statuses, ethnicities, and home lives. We pool all of our knowledge and resources to create a classroom of acceptance and positivity.
Now more than ever, students need to learn to self-regulate their emotions and focus on the present moment.
Mindfulness does that and more.
These children are learning the basics of being mindful, as well as being taught a social-emotional curriculum. Most schools focus on social-emotional learning, which certainly helps in relationships with others. It is time for students to understand the relationship they have with themselves.
My Project
Over the past year, I have taken many courses in Mindfulness. I have found that in doing my own practice, my career has become more meaningful and fulfilling. This attitude change has greatly influenced the children in my third grade classroom. What started off with self-exploration has turned into classroom mini-lessons. My current class has an exemplary behavior record. They have learned to self-regulate emotions and attend more to the tasks at hand. The items I am requesting will be used to create a Mindfulness Curriculum to use in my classroom. I have ordered many professional development texts, as well as trade books, in order to develop a curriculum that combines our social-emotional teaching with mindfulness practices. This summer, it is my intention to work on my personal practice, hone my teaching craft, integrate our school's SEL curriculum, learn about the brain and the neuroscience involved, and so much more. My goal after developing this curriculum is to share my knowledge with other teachers and students. I want to create a school culture of mindfulness and heartfulness.

These are used to signal the start and end of each mindfulness session. Wondering why I need a model of the brain and books about the nervous system? Students will be taught how and why mindfulness works, and how the brain is affected by mindfulness. This project will create is a well-developed approach to mindfulness that I will incorporate into our daily routine.
