This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of our students struggle with executive functioning skills such as attention, self-control, and managing emotions.
Our elementary students (pre-k to 5th grade) are creative, imaginative, and curious.
Our school is high poverty and high trauma. They want to learn and get along with one another but sometimes struggle due to environmental factors. They need more opportunities to develop life skills.
My Project
Students will have access to a mindfulness area including bins with variety of tools (e.g., squeeze balls, timers, books, mindful jars, etc.) where they can go to either practice proactively or when they are frustrated/upset. They will learn self-awareness, calming, and attention skills.
This project will assist in the development of a peaceful classroom community where students are engaged and able to manage their emotions in appropriate ways.
Students will demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy for one another.
