My school district is in a low income/high poverty area, and experiences all the the difficulties that come with that.
In spite of that, my students are bright, fun, kind, engaged and deserving of a positive learning environment.
Our school is a PreK-12 grade building in a small, rural community. Our staff and students are dedicated to creating a rigorous curriculum with high standards. As a result, our district "Exceeds Expectations" on the state report card and our scores continue to go up each year.
My Project
Stress and anxiety are unfortunately very high in most students today. I am teaching a class that will incorporate mindfulness stress reduction principles so that students can obtain skills to help them process and cope with lifelong stresses. My students will use the paint and other supplies to create journals, paint bowls, murals, and other self expressive projects.
Creative art inspired projects are a great way to help process, understand, and cope with stressful situations and thoughts.
It allows people an outlet to their express hopes, dreams, and fears in a safe manner.
Through mindfulness students can learn life long skills to enable them to cope with life's stresses but to also lead a more thoughtful and authentic life.
