Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a looping educator, I am profoundly fortunate to spend 3rd and 4th grade with the same group of students! As we end our 3rd-grade year, we have had incredible students join us from Utah and North Carolina, as well as cities near and far. Some of the best and the brightest show up.
As a whole brain educator, we are so lucky to be learning and teaching together.
Our classroom is full of tiny teachers who support each other and applaud each other for their hard work and dedication.
While their young lives might be ripe with traumas that run the gamut of small to great, you would NEVER know what these hard-working, brilliant and kind students are navigating while continuing to learn and grow...and SHINE.
My Project
I began with a professional development project for books around mindfulness to begin my practice and completely fallen in love with what it has provided my students in terms of readiness, self-care, and calm.
I'd like to continue my professional development online with the course - Staying Present: Mindfulness for Better Teaching and Learning.
This course will provide the opportunity to learn valuable tools I need to create an energized, interconnected, and kind classroom culture where every member is engaged, motivated, and passionate about learning.
Research shows that implementing mindfulness in the classroom also results in significant teaching and learning benefits. When we, my students and I, can relax, become centered, and better manage our emotions, we increase our focus, improve our social and emotional skills, and even enhance our physical health.
