My Students

Our grades 3-5 school is located in the western foothills of rural Maine. We are a Title I school with a wide range of students with varied social, emotional, and academic needs.

Once our students learn Mindfulness strategies in school counseling classes, the skills transfer to other areas of their lives.

One student recently shared that it even helps him go to sleep at night.

Students can settle in as a group with a reminder to find their mindful bodies and take some breaths.

My Project

I have been using mindfulness in conjunction with my work as a school counselor in grades 3-5. I notice when we sit as a group at the beginning of class, students are right there with me. They hear, feel, see, and experience learning much more fully.

I find it deeply gratifying to share my profound personal mindfulness experiences with my students and then watch them take the tools out into their worlds.

In this ongoing program, we are required to attend a closing retreat this coming July. We connected as a group in the opening retreat and our work continues online this school year. I look forward to the culmination of this program this summer. This will lead to becoming certified to teach mindfulness in schools and in the wider community.
