Our school is comprised of general education, Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), bilingual, and 12:1 special education classrooms. We are in the process of creating a "mindful room" that all students can go to when they need to calm down. Students can do yoga, meditate, and read books.
Many students come from low-income households and there is also a large ELL (English Language Learner) population.
96% of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. Some of our students have a hard time dealing with their emotions and self-regulating.
My Project
Our school would like to create a "mindful room" for all students. It would be a place where students who are having difficulties managing with their emotions and self-regulating can go to meditate and do yoga. We believe that creating a "mindful room" would have positive results on student behavior and learning. Students can learn calming techniques that help them to regulate their own emotions in the "mindful room." We would like to create a warm and welcoming environment where students can relax and reflect.
To create an inviting space, we need decorative pillows for our teepee so that students can go relax when they are stressed or upset.
The artificial tree, decorative pillows, baskets, bins, window decals, and table clothes will help create a soothing environment for our students. We would love to create a space in which the students feel at peace when they walk in and helps with the calming process.
