My students need Wobble Chairs, Wobble Cushions and Comfy Floor Seats to have flexible seating and more options to meet their independent learning styles.
Movement, movement and more movement! That is how I describe my first grade students. We live in a world of high depends, and we as teachers know the world of education is ever changing. Curriculum and standards are always being worked on, and the pressure to “score well” is higher than ever. Unfortunately, the students are the ones who suffer and feel this enormous amount of stress being placed on them to succeed.
I try to give my students as many different outlets to release their anxieties and all of their bound up energy while still creating a fun and engaging educational environment.
I encourage students to move about and bounce or wiggle or tap their feet if needed while learning. Students are all individuals, and creating a classroom where they can feel safe to be themselves and a place where they can relax while learning is what I strive for in my classroom.
My Project
Movement is an essential part of young children’s success in school. As our curriculum expands and our students are constantly being assessed, movement is a must! Right now, yoga and dance brain breaks are the only option I have for my students. Wobble chairs and flexible seating would give my students so much more choice and many more movement options during their learning. Flexible seating has become very popular in classrooms everywhere.
The Wobble chairs and seats I have requested are meant to allow students to move while working.
These amazing chairs allow students to move and rock safely. Many students tip back in their chairs now, and it’s very dangerous. I know it works because as a mother of a very anxious 4th grader whose teacher moved to a classroom with flexible seating, I saw great changes. Being comfortable while in class helps anxious students feel more relaxed. More learning takes place when students feel safe and comfortable. This is what this project will provide for students in my classroom now and in the future.
