This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I believe that students must be genuinely engaged in their learning if it is going to be meaningful and long-lasting. This engagement can come in various forms, but one consistent way to make learning exciting is to integrate hands-on lessons.
Our students have school pride that is contagious.
Approximately 547 children attend my school and identify mostly as Multiracial, Black, non-Hispanic, and Asian. 100% of the students here receive free breakfast and lunch. We are also a Title I school with at least 75% of our school's students coming from low-income families. Our school is part of a huge military community. We have a well-maintained school with a loving, caring administrator, as well as teachers and support staff who do everything within their power to see that the needs of the students are met. We put students first. My students work very hard and are excited about learning. Everyone is valued, and we do all we can to provide what each child needs.
My Project
It is often said that the way you begin your day will be the way that it ends. I am excited to give my students the opportunity to begin their day on the right foot. By having multiple items for my students to choose from in the morning after spinning the magnetic wheel, they are likely to find something new and interesting to spark their creativity. I imagine looking around my classroom and seeing groups of students playing games such as Kanoodle, and Boom Blastix. Other groups may be building with LEGOs, Brain Blox, or Picasso Magnet Tiles. Some other students may be choosing to let their creative juices flow with paper and pencil. All items will be held and easily accessible in Sterilite bins for students to grab and find a spot within the classroom.
