Mindful Moments Brought To You by the Chill Zone

My Project

The tween and teen brains are works in progress. The last part of the brain to develop is the part that houses our executive functioning. This refers to skills such as self-control, working through distractions, planning and prioritizing, judgment, focus, and more. Essentially, many of the skills they require to navigate society appropriately and effectively as adults.

Students are still responding to the emotional parts of their brains and need spaces to explore and master developing skills and abilities.

My work with students focuses on supporting them in developing these skills. This includes teaching and modeling self-regulation, self-control, and so on. The Chill Zone will be a space where students can practice skills such as breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, reflection, expressive art projects, and the like in a calm, supportive space.
