I teach in a E-12 building that is in the center of a very small community. We have under 450 students school wide and a majority of them qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. My yearly budget of $200 goes towards supplies such as paper, construction paper, large poster paper, birthday crowns, and prizes. First grade is a class intended for learning, but I also want my classroom to have constructive fun time.
This is why I wish to add some materials that my students can use to be creative, constructive, and imaginative!
This project would fund different activities that my students could use to help promote their motor and inventive skills. Play is often undervalued in school! I want to make it an important and valued part of our day.
My Project
As a first grade teacher, I know that play is a valuable part of the school day. Being able to socialize, problem solve, and be creative all encompass a well rounded child. Unfortunately, I have next to zero activities for students to utilize for educational play.
The materials I have selected for my classroom will help compliment free choice time in my room.
Students will have a variety of options to help them become more mindful of STEAM activities as well as gain spatial awareness. Often times, such activities get overlooked in the busy schedule of a first grader's school day. However, with these fun new items on hand, playful learning will be encouraged and welcomed in my classroom!
