My Students

As the school counselor, I have the privilege of working with a specialized set of students with a variety of needs. The thing I love most about the students I get to work with, is no matter how difficult their challenges have been in the few years they have been on this earth, they continue to be happy and resilient.

Sometimes the students I work with have roughs days and sometimes they may struggle with functioning in a regular classroom setting.

This allows me to work with other team members to think outside the box in order to find solutions to help these kiddos achieve in their classrooms both academically and socially.

Regardless of their struggles at home and at school, their grit, spirit, and determination continue to inspire me. I pour my heart into working with these kids because I can see in them qualities and strengths that they may not even see in themselves. And when they finally achieve the behavior and classroom goals we have put into place, seeing this feeling of accomplishment reflected on their faces and internalized through their actions- well that feeling is indescribable.

My Project

Park Elementary is a Title 1 school where most of our students did not get the coaching and support they needed while at-home learning during COVID. As the school counselor I have seen greater occurrences of anxiety, lack of self-regulation, decreased academic stamina and most devastating of all, a lack of self efficacy.

The materials I have selected serve to increase grit, focus, academic stamina, growth mindset, mindfulness, identifying and regulating emotions and increasing overall social emotional learning.

I have chosen books, workbooks, and sensory objects to support my efforts.
