This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are young, active and motivated learners. They live and attend school in an urban area with high crime. They look forward to learning in school, because it's the safest environment for them. Every year, I re-evaluate the needs of my classroom. I do this to make sure that my students are given the best opportunities to grow, even if it means purchasing items out of my own pocket.
My preschool children are thirsty for knowledge.
They deserve so much!
My Project
My students are in dire need of more math manipulatives! We already have some toys in the classroom that encourage the children to create patterns, count and sort. However, the children need more counters that are tailored to their interests. They need dinosaurs and family counters, counting cans and a domino construction set!
My students need more math manipulatives to stimulate their minds!
I want my students to develop a love for math. I want them to become more familiar with one to one correspondence and strengthen their math skills. Every day, my students have a work time where they play. These materials would be located in the various areas around my classroom. The students will use the materials to count, compare, sort, measure and even weigh with a scale. I'm confident my students will be more prepared in math by the time they enter Kindergarten!
