This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently teach second grade in a Title I school in North Carolina. This means all the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. The community my school serves is transient with a high percentage of military families. The class has an abundance of critical thinkers who are enthusiastic about learning, but we have limited resources within the classroom to keep them challenged. This school community was also impacted by the recent Hurricane Florence in October of this year (2018) which caused many of my students to miss opportunities for learning.
My Project
Student learning will come alive when they are challenged to use math and science. Using the literature will help them make better connections in a way they understand. Having this opportunity is especially important for those children who struggle without a hands on experience. An essential skill for problem solving is an important skill for children to develop as citizens in the 21st Century.
Equipment such as headphones and geared clocks will allow the children to access a variety of STEM games.
Math reasoning resources and games will help students who find math and science challenging while enabling those who understand it to become more challenged. Without your support the children may not have the opportunity to become fully engaged in science and math in the real world.
