Help me give my students 40 copies of the book "What Was the Boston Tea Party?" by Kathleen Krull so they can continue their journey of learning about the American Revolution.
My fifth-grade students are an active bunch of ten and eleven-year-olds. My class has a variety of learning levels including gifted/talented learners, students needing additional support, and everything in between. That being said, they are a great group of students who love to learn and that is the key to it all.
Each child in my classroom is a unique learner who comes to school each day ready to achieve at the highest levels.
My students are from varied backgrounds. Many are minorities and are from families with a low socio-economic status. Our school also serves a high population of ELL (English Language Learners) students. These kids like to learn when things are made exciting and when they feel successful. They like to participate in learning stations and hands-on activities. They are very inquisitive and are excited to learn new and different things.
My Project
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom love to read about history, especially the American Revolution. Our school library doesn't have a large collection of these books, so I would like to have a class set of this book that will last for years to come. This is a genre of book that will hold their interest and keep them reading in my classroom.
Even with my diverse readers, they will often pick up an informational text because they know that the words, pictures, and visuals is food for their brains.
Students who read these books find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is perfect way to build better readers. Historic nonfiction books are a gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. My students will love getting their hands on history.
