The students benefited by this project are all grades K-5 military kids of active/retired servicemembers in our area. They are such special kids because of the lifestyle they lead to support their military parent. They are resilient, understanding, flexible and kind. This project is a school club to support them during the many challenges they face as a result of their grownups' dedication to our country. This group is the first of it's kind at our school and with 30+ students already signed up, we could very quickly use the resources to make an immediate and significant impact in their lives, their self esteem and their sense of belonging.
The goal is to use these resources to help make a difference in the ever-changing lives of our local military children. We will focus on projects to give our military kids an outlet for any social/emotional struggles they face, to create a sense of belonging through education about their contributions to our country and a place where they can make friends with children in similar situations. We will also use the resources to encourage patriotism in our school by letting our military kids highlight and celebrate their families' contributions during events like Veteran's Day, Month of the Military Child, etc.
