Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, intellectually curious and eager to ready themselves for their future! We are a Pre-K to 5th-grade elementary school with 700+ children. Over half of all students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are a proactive school with several before and after-school tutoring and community outreach programs.
Our students' families struggle financially but everyone is dedicated to helping our parents provide for their children.
The educators and support staff are amazing in their dedication and determination to make a difference in the lives of our students. Much time and personal resources are spent outside the standard work day in order to benefit and uplift our students and their families. Our goal is to give each student the very best education and most support possible at all times. We will not fail in our mission and our students share our determination to succeed!
My Project
Authentic, Real-World Engagement: that's what hooks my students, draws them in and keeps them for the long-haul persevering through the most challenging of assignments and learning opportunities. This professional development through mindSpark Learning will provide me with the understanding and guidance in creating those Problem Based Learning opportunities with my students and working with education partners.
As a participant, I will be able to develop a strong understanding of the problem-based learning (PBL) model and learn how to partner with industry leaders in my community so that I can bring authentic STEM learning experiences to my students.
I will be able to learn of and model the same important characteristics of PBLs such as the necessity of having a positive entrepreneurial identity and a creative "can-do" spirit and to foster in my students a growth mindset, teaching them the importance of risk-taking, resilience, collaboration, and stewardship.
