This year, my fifth graders are some of the most thankful, and caring students I have ever had the opportunity to work with. They care for their school, their classmates, and the staff in our building. They have worked extremely hard in their academics, and I would love to reward them with items that will help in making their working environment more comfortable.
Many of my students, as well as myself, suffer from chronic migraines that are triggered by the fluorescent lighting in our room.
I have done my best to create an environment that limits the overhead lighting. I have purchased lamps that are scattered throughout the room, but occasionally the overhead lights need to be turned on (especially when there is a sub). Overhead light covers will help in eliminating the harsh fluorescent lighting that causes migraines for many of my students.
Along with the light covers, students will benefit from having new and sturdy stools for our small group table. I meet daily with individualized groups to meet the learning needs of all my students. Currently, we do not have enough stools to accommodate everyone that needs help, and the stool we have are falling apart. Having new stools, as well as adhesive dry erase dots, will help in providing my students a comfortable place to meet with me in groups!
