My Students

My students are so resilient. Many come from very difficult childhoods and have experienced more trauma in 16 years than most do in a lifetime. They amaze me every day with their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn. My students make me laugh every day. I can’t imagine my life without them and their silly antics. Because of our lack of windows, my students often complain of being “in jail.” Though they are known to exaggerate, the artificial lighting can be draining. Help them get out of jail!

My Project

In our school, windows are hard to come by. Students spend most of their days in only fluorescent lighting. I have tried to alleviate the migraines and headaches by adding lamps in my classroom. This allows me to turn off half of the fluorescent lights in my room. Light filters will allow my students to have full and adequate lighting without the harshness of the fluorescence. My students will be able to focus easier and stay on task with proper lighting. Since many of my students do not have great homes, I try to create the most comfortable and “homey” atmosphere in my room. Please help my students feel comfortable and at home in school.
