My students need additional play activity supplies! Last year, I received many of these supplies and now I am looking to add in order to include more students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves students, and families, from a low income and high poverty area. This means that my students are often dealing with several challenges within the classroom and, often, at home. To build a stronger community our school uses Project Based Learning, and Social Emotional Learning. Through these methods my students are learning how to build essential character traits while using their critical thinking skills.
One of the best sounds in the world is hearing a student exclaim, “Look!
I did it! I did it all by myself!” What makes it even better is when it comes from a student who has struggled through a concept for weeks on end. In my classroom this is an all too familiar reality.
Teaching 1st grade means high energy, plenty of growth, and a lot of love. In this grade students make a significant amount of growth, both intellectually, and emotionally. Many students will start the year knowing nothing more than a few of their ABCs, but will leave devouring books and adding up a storm. It is amazing to watch them make this progress, and grow into amazing community members.
My Project
Last year, many wonderful people donated to my room using DonorsChoose to create a “Fun Friday” and "Rainy Day” play area. After experiencing play with my students I have decided that I need to add to some of their favorite play time activities so that more students can be involved.
My students absolutely love using the building blocks to create little towns, and following the building plans for the amazing Playstix structures.
The boys and girls also love doing floor puzzles. The giant floor puzzles allow my students who do not have fine motor skills to participate in the fun!
I am also hoping to receive the Beginning Operations Library and the Simple Word builder to help supplement my small group interventions. This will benefit my students who learn at a different rate than others. Many times these students need more hands-on work in order to understand a topic, and these activities are perfect for that!
