I have a unique group of second graders with a wide range of talents and abilities, likes and interests. I have 25 students in my homeroom class, but I also get to teach math to the other class of second graders, giving me the wonderful opportunity to interact with all of the second graders in our school.
As a class, we work to form bonds and become a family.
We establish our rules and expectations and work towards forming good habits. My students are curious. They are explorers. My students love hands-on, project and activity based learning. They enjoy learning and some really light up when they realize they've understood a new concept.
My Project
The Daily Math Fluency Kit will provide powerful tools to help my second graders develop a deeper understanding of number sense. Having a strong number sense will help them to excel in math. The anchor charts and math talks included in the kit will be very meaningful to my students. Having the anchor charts will guide their thinking, and the provided math talks will generate powerful conversations while providing my students with the opportunity to think and talk about math. They will learn to see numbers in a new way and understand how to manipulate them to solve problems quickly and efficiently. They will know to apply the concepts they learn to much larger and more complex problems.
Teaching students strategies and providing them tools to work with are very important.
This kit includes everything I need to begin these powerful lessons with my students.
