Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school, my students face many challenges, yet they are eager to come to school and learn every day. My current class consists of 20 sweet and loving 4 and 5-year-old children.
Many of these children come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken.
These students love interacting with each other and learning through play. Despite the lack of English and the environments where some of these students come from, they are learning and growing every day!
My Project
These amazing math, science and dramatic play tools will help my Pre-K students become more effective learners. By learning through the manipulation of hands-on items, my students get to use their imagination and creativity to learn. My students will use these items on a daily basis through center work and small group activities. The kitchen appliances will help them work to develop language through play while they are working and creating in the kitchen center together. They will use the counters to help sort, count, and explore in centers and small groups. They will learn to create and become engineers by using the building kits to make cars, bridges and houses. The insect slides and viewer will help them to make connections to the world around them. They will use the counting trays to patterns, counting, and one-to-one correspondence. These items will be instrumental in helping them achieve their goals for the year and help prepare them for kindergarten. The items we currently have in these centers have been used by many classes and are starting to fall apart. The new items would bring a new level of excitement for learning in our classroom.
