This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Pennsylvania, and all receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a typical, inner-city school. Most face serious obstacles before they even walk through the doors in the morning. Our goal is to make our school a safe and loving environment.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and different countries.
This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard, and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
As a math teacher I should be sending home math activities, but I have a group of 10 kids who love reading as much as I do. We have been reading together all year but we are running out of books because I don't really have a classroom library except for the books I can get here and there. My students asked for some new books like Harry Potter and Stephen King. I would love for these kids to be able to have books to take home over Christmas break. Their break is a week and they are actually asking for educational things to do. How can I possibly say no?
