I teach 7th grade English/Language Arts. My students like a variety of literature genres, as well as a myriad of reading materials.
I work hard to have a classroom library that offers "something for everyone."
My students are wonderful!
I have approximately 85 students each day in my regular classes and another 20 students per day in Language Arts Intervention. Every single one of them has their own preferences when it comes to the type of books they read. The reading levels of my students vary from 3rd grade to college level, so I work hard to have a variety of books in my classroom for my students to read.
My Project
Our school library is often inaccessible, or doesn't have the type of books that my students desire. For this reason, and because books that are close and easy to get to get read more, I work diligently every year to make a fabulous classroom library for my students. My students are required to have a book with them each day, so any spare time they have can be spent reading.
My classroom library has it's own reputation (a great one,) and students who don't even have me as a teacher often come to my room to check out books. Though I only have 105 students per day, my classroom library can be used by any student in the school (over 900 students. Mysteries are definitely the most popular genre of literature for this age group, regardless of the reading level of middle school students. The American Chillers series will be a perfect fit in my library. I am sure my students will love reading the books and recommending them to their friends.
Donations to this project will make a difference in the lives of many of my students.
I've noticed that many of my students wish to check out the same book as a friend and with 2 sets of this series, that will be possible. Students will be able to read the books in my classroom, or borrow them to take home and read - a priceless opportunity for a child!
