Middle School Students Need Colorful Art Materials for Spring Projects.
My students need paper, glue, glass stringers, and oil pastels to complete spring projects such as Celtic paper knots, oil pastel sunsets, and fused glass projects. We are currently under a district budget freeze.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My inter-city students are 7th and 8th grade highly motivated Art students with about 80% receiving free or reduced price lunch. Most have no access to art materials of any type outside of the school day.
Art class is a daily opportunity for them to express creativity and create something they are proud of.
We believe in providing a top notch arts education to nurture the budding artist inside. This can be tough when the annual budget amounts to about $3 per student. I see 150 students each day, with a new group each semester.
My Project
We need paper, glue, glass stringers, and oil pastels to complete spring projects such as Celtic paper knots, oil pastel sunsets, and fused glass projects. These materials will make a difference, because due to a budget freeze, we may not otherwise be able to complete projects that students were looking forward to. Students look forward to coming to the Art room everyday to express themselves, relieve stress, and hone their artistic skills.
We plan to create bright spring colored Celtic knots with cut and glued paper, fused glass pendants, oil pastel landscapes of Lake Michigan beach scenes, and ceramic self portrait masks.
These projects will be displayed in our building display cases and at our District Art show. Student take great pride in having their work brighten up our building.
