Help me give my students the ability to go and compete in VEX EDR competitions. It allows for them to become more versed in engineering, and computer science. As well as work on personal relationships with each other.
Our school services low income families in rural Appalachia. Our project serves students grades 5-12. These students are working to overcome the lack of S.T.E.M. based learning at the middle school level, while being mentored by high school students. Our middle school students come from all of the county middle schools that feed into our one county high school. Our program has no specific selection process, thus allowing us to serve students with various academic levels. Many of our students receive Special Education services and have overcome personal and educational barriers.
Our students have referred to this program as "finding a second family", "making new friends", and "having fun while learning." We have also realized that these connections have carried over to this school year, having our alumni return to help and mentor our current students.
The bonds were naturally created and not something specially planned in the beginning. When students share the same passion, these connections came naturally. This is our second year with this project allowing us to recruit additional students and increasing growth within our program.
My Project
These Products will help our students, grow in the area of STEM. My team will be competing for the second year in VEX Robotics, and need this to help grow. These products are the small items, that we use a lot and need. Thank You for your help.
We want to grow our group to have more teams, especially a female team.
My students compete against other middle school teams, as well as high school teams. We had a successful year this year. However we are looking to start preparing for the upcoming season. Please help us get a good start, and support us.
