Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students inspire me on a daily basis. They come from diverse backgrounds all over the world: Philippines, Mexico, Central & South America, Vietnam, Korea, China, and more. Some families are small but live in big houses and some of our families are large but live in small houses.
Each day I'm greeted with smiles from students who are ready to learn.
Our school is located next to strawberry fields and car dealerships in an unincorporated part of town. Community support and a progressive administration are contributing to positive changes, but we still have some pressing needs. I look forward to what each day has to offer as we delve into our 21st century learning activities in our 57-year-old school.
My Project
Making movies to show learning engages students more thoroughly than writing a traditional report. Students will create presentations using the green screen to put themselves or their subjects in the place they are exploring. The tripod, stand, and microphones will replace the presently very shaky hard-to-hear videos, thus allowing the students to have movies that look more professional. Students can concentrate more on content and less on holding the iPad still.
The ability to use 21st century tools will allow the content to come to life in the classroom.
Social Studies, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, and more can be presented in stop-motion, as news reports, cartoons, or whatever. The sky is the limit!
Students love seeing themselves and their friends in videos. Being able to share the learning with our larger community will be powerful. What better way to engage students in learning.
