My students need a video camera, tripod, and camera case to help them produce multimedia presentations that demonstrate what they are learning in middle school humanities and science projects.

My 8th grade homeroom/humanities students are smart, funny, caring, and hardworking young adults.
Like many other schools in California, we struggle with adequate funding and equitable access to supplies and equipment. I would like them to have the same opportunities to express themselves and "save the world from itself" that I had way back when I was in school.
My Project
These students have consistently impressed me with their writing ability and skills. I believe they have earned the opportunity to share their messages and demonstrate their learning via other media. I believe great filmmaking and media production begins with great writing and careful planning, and these students are ready to move on to other avenues and apply their terrific writing to video, music production, presentation software and web design.
Several students have expressed a desire to produce a video promoting their involvement in a local program called CERES,where they are involved in caring for people who have cancer. Other students would like to help promote our local wildlife rescue center. These kids have so many other great ideas, I would love to help them get their messages out!
This one video camera and tripod will lay the foundation for video production for years to come at our school.
It is in important step in giving less-fortunate/economically challenged students here access to equipment that is necessary in practicing media literacy (rather than just studying it). I look forward to sharing our results with DonorsChoose.org!
