My school is a K-12 Charter school located outside of Charleston, South Carolina. Our 6-8th Graders are filled with students from all different backgrounds and varying abilities. My hope is to provide our students with differentiated math instruction, especially financial literacy by attending professional development at the Association of Mathematics Teacher Education Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, I will be able to bring back instructional strategies to share with my colleagues at LLCS!
Our Middle School team strives to make our student’s learning meaningful and authentic with instruction that will feed their knowledge and light a fire in the soul to be successful in their academic career!
Our 6-8th Grade students are eager to learn, enthusiastic, and have a hunger for math! New instructional strategies will help me provide differentiation to build student knowledge and student motivation.
Our school is committed to providing all students a safe and exceptional academic environment that cultivates independent learning, character enrichment, and regional awareness while developing accountable leaders, community stewards, and diverse thinkers through project-based experiences.
My Project
I am requesting to attend a conference to learn an effective, evidence based instructional approach for teaching the high school students of LLCS in algebra, calculus, financial management, and other areas of mathematics. The AMTE Conference holds workshops based on research and have a record of successful instructional interactions with students with strategies for dyscalculia and other math disabilities.
By receiving training in implementing instructional strategies with differentiation will provide my students real experiences with a proven approach and allow me to deliver it to anyone in need at our school.
Besides intense, explicit instruction in how to help my high school student's in their math success, the conference will provide materials to promote success among my students with varying abilities in my algebra and financial management classes. My students will receive systematic, explicit, rigorous instruction in conjunction with activities that promote mathematical skill development.
For many students (and adults!) math is a mystery and a struggle. I believe that I can become a provider of valuable instruction that can bridge gaps and help overcome barriers. I look forward to having this valuable instruction available here at our school for the advancement of those that once may have stumbled.
