My wonderful and soon-to-be middle school math students come from different backgrounds and learning styles. The school where I will be working at strives to make sure students feel accepted, safe, and loved. I want my students to feel they can walk into my classroom believing that math skills can be learned by all.
My classroom at the moment is a blank canvas and I would love to create a space where my students feel welcomed.
I also want to provide them with materials to keep them actively engaged in math activities. Yes, math can be fun, interactive, and enjoyable!
My middle-school math students will be working in small groups and will have a class period set aside for math reinforcement. Interactive activities, like the Geometry Kits and Pre-Algebra Bingo, used in an accepting, positive environment not only supports intellectual growth but social-emotional growth as well.
A one-size-fits-all approach does not meet the needs of our students and I want to support them in all ways possible.
By adding colorful, purposeful posters and having access to various math manipulatives will give my students a chance to learn math with various approaches. My classes will have students of differing math levels and having variety will be essential to my classroom.
