Middle School Math Classroom Transformation

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I currently teach a 6th, 7th and 8th grade math class daily. Our class time includes 1 period of grade level work and one hour of math instruction that is dedicated to small group instruction (SGI) to help our students address loss learning from the pandemic, misconceptions, and environmental challenges due to being in the intercity. The products I have selected will give my students the ability to work collaboratively and allow SGI to run smoothly. Currently my classroom has desks that are hard to get in and out of when in groups, some are broken, they are too big/too many for the size of the classroom, does not allow for groups to have supplies right there due to the unevenness, etc. My students are deserving of an updated classroom that is inviting and promotes learning. I intend on providing that to them by remodeling my classroom with newly painted walls, new flooring and new seating arrangements.

Having tables in the classroom will promote collaboration among students when completing math assignments and allow work to be shown on a larger scale where it can be visible to everyone in the group.
