Middle School Essentials: Let's Get this Party Started!
My students need essential items for the upcoming school year (backpacks, pencils, scissors, folders) as well as items for project-based learning (clay, construction paper, etc).
I have the amazing opportunity to teach middle school social studies. Classes range from 20-25 students of varying economic, social, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. Our school focuses on project based learning (PBL) which allows learners to connect what they learn at school to real-life scenarios. We hope this will prepare them to be active civic participants in their communities.
Over the past year we noticed that the financial strain of a new school year can greatly impact the families at our school.
We hope that we can ease this burden through this Donors Choose project!
Our middle school students are creative, energetic, and of course--full of questions! They truly care about each other and their teachers. For instance, this past year while I was sick my students created get well cards and cleaned the classroom while I was out! Our middle school students are always ready to make you laugh: If I do a countdown they always shout "Happy New Year!" at the end. They truly are a class full of personality and a pleasure to teach!
My Project
Back to school shopping can be an economic strain for many families. This year I hope we can help ease that strain by providing essential school supplies for our middle school learners.
I included items such as backpacks, binders, scissors, folders, and pencils.
Additionally, I included items that many students need for project-based learning (PBL). PBL is a cornerstone at my school, but it should never become a burden for our families. We want learners to have the resources to complete their projects without feeling left-out, neglected, or inadequate. By providing these much needed items, many of our families can devote their economic resources toward other necessary expenses. Please help us acquire these items so all students can start the year off fully equipped to succeed!
