I need to take the Middle School Curriculum and Instruction course through the University of Phoenix in November 2019.

I teach seventh-grade science in a rural, kindergarten through 8th-grade school. Our community is very diverse in economics as well as cultures. Our school is a population of low-income families which means that 89% of our children qualify and receive free breakfast and free or reduced-priced lunch, which means many of our children live in poverty.
Sadly we are also experiencing a growing number of families that are homeless or temporarily living with family or friends, which means they are considered to be displaced.
My children come to school sometimes with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Often times academics is the farthest thing from their minds, so I believe it is so important to try and spark a love for something that will take them away from their worries. I want to excite them with science, even if it is just for that 50 minutes I have them each day. For 50 minutes I try to instill a love for science by using hands-on experiments and I love when they are excited and can't wait to tell the next class coming in what they will be doing.
My children are amazing!
I moved to 7th-grade science this past school year from teaching elementary for 15 years. I was able to move because I had all of the courses necessary but one, which is EDUC523 Middle School Curriculum and Instruction, to complete my certification for middle school. I love teaching science in middle school and I feel that my students have benefited in many ways because I do love it. I do not want to move back to elementary just because I lack one course to be certified. I want to take this course so that I can stay in the grade and teach the curriculum that I love and that they love my teaching.
