My students deserve all of the support that I can give them. This support comes from all of the teachers in many different ways. For some students, the school is their safe place. For other students, this is the only time of day when they don't have to worry about adult problems.
As a teacher, I want my students to have everything they need to make them successful learners.
This means different things for different students. For some, it's the simple act of me showing up every day. For others, it means I have to have supplies ready for them. Every student needs something different from me when it comes to what their success looks like.
My students come from all different backgrounds and circumstances. One thing that is the same across the board is that they all need a little extra caring sometimes. Not having access to items for basic care needs should not be something else they have to worry about.
My students don't always have access to basic care items, and this sometimes leads to not wanting to be in class or trying to hide in the back of a room.
No student should have to go through the embarrassment of not having a clean shirt for school, or not having a toothbrush and toothpaste. We hope to combat this issue by creating a Care Closet where students can find the items they need when they need them, no questions asked.
