My students are majority Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders.
The communities that our students come from communities that are considered Low Socio-Economic Status.
I feel that our students are mentally tough, they come to school ready to work. They are a little rough around the edges but once you show them that as a teacher you are there for them. They will do anything for you. Many of them come from a rough and tough home. Our school has been in operation for the past 14 years and we are still growing. We are consistently trying to improve and be better as a school.
My Project
For this project, we are requesting mouthpieces, footballs, and other equipment for our after school Athletics club for middle school students grades 7-8.
At KW, we are continuing to look at ways to develop our students and we feel that through sports, Respect, Humility, Responsibility, Perseverance, Unity, Safety, and Caring can be developed.
These are our school values called the Na Mea Waiwai.
We are creating an after school Athletics Club for grades 7-8 in which we are going to create a Pylon Football Team. Through this club we will be developing the students athletic abilities and also preparing them in becoming a true student-athlete that should ease their transition into High School.
Footballs will be used for practices and games. The ladders and reaction balls will be used during practices to help with agility.
Even though Pylon is a two hand touch style of football, safety is still a priority in which mouthpieces are required for every player.
