My Students
Our scholars are the next generation STEM innovators in need of advanced counseling supports. Our school is equipped with a plethora of technology, dedicated staff members and students you have the ability to achieve phenomenal results. Although our scholars may not display the same level of proficiency compared to other demographic populations, this innovative group of young scholars has the potential to positively alter their trajectory and impact their communities on a larger scale. Even though they have experienced various setbacks, they are armed with willingness, determination and a vision for a brighter tomorrow.
My Project
As a middle school counselor, one of the biggest challenges I face is in the area of student advisory. This professional development infuses SEL skills in a formalized advisory program. Through my attendence of this PD, I intend to design a school-specific advisory program, provide thought engaging opportunities for my scholars and collect best practices for optimal student performance.
My goal is to improve student autonomy and cultivate student-centered advisory groups through SEL.
Since middle school can be challenging for many students, I believe it is important to equip them with the skillset and tools to effectively navigate within their school community. This professional development will increase healthy peer relationships, decrease negative discipline and promote self-advocacy. Additionally, the SEL component will serve as an extension to bi-annual assessments conducted at the district level.
